Cyberspace

From What's new, new media?

The term originated with author William Gibson in his novel Neuromancer (pub. 1984) to describe, a the then largely theoretical mental space occupied by people communicating in a virtual world. The word Cyberspace is currently used to describe the whole range of information resources available through computer networks, and in the popular vernacular is largely synonymous with the Internet.
