The Free Nation Foundation is an international organization that promotes the adoption of the principles of freedom which, as enumerated, include the belief that the only valid restriction on human behavior is on behavior that in turn restricts the freedom of other people. Among the principles in support of this larger message are the principles of information freedom and resource sharing.
- “To establish an ecologically sustainable society that provides the freedom to advance humanity through science, reason and cooperation.”
The Free Nation Foundation resulted from the failed attempt of the torrent community The Pirate Bay to purchase wikipedia:Sealand (an abandoned naval platform off the coast of England). In response to the failed purchase, the group's efforts turned towards the creation of a utopian vision of a nation with "complete" information freedom, including a lack of any intellectual property laws.
