Scalability means that a particular media can handle increasing amounts of content. Lev Manovich states that scalability is one of the most basic forms of variability. A good example of this would be the internet. The internet has a virtually unlimited amound of space to contain content and can be used to display movies, text, sound, and images. Although a simple DVD can output all these forms of media, it can only handle so much information on one disk. It is limited in its interaction options and have a very linear narration.
