Shaping Things is the 2005 book by written by writer/futurist Bruce Sterling and designed by Lorraine Wild. Shaping Things was first published in 2005 by MIT Press. Subjects of the book include the transformation of design, the persistence of the usual products in new containers, spimes, RFIDs, and end-user fabrication, or fabbing. While Sterling's comments are relative to our future, they persist in doing what science fiction has always: exploding out the present into a future in which everything persists as it appears at the date of publication. This book is unlike science fiction in that, its speculation is not wrapped around a plot.
